Course overview

In this course you will produce a small residential renovation based on a set design brief. You will work through this set design brief lesson by lesson with your facilitator. 
You are unable to bring your own personal project to this course, we encourage you to take your learnings and newly acquired skills home to work on your personal project.
You will examine the basic principles of interior design and what it is to become an Interior Designer, including space planning basics, presentation and rendering techniques, basic computer skills required for a client presentation and how to produce a final A3 presentation for clients.

No previous experience is required for this 8 week course.

Topics covered include:

  •   Week 1 - What is interior design? / Elements and principles of design / Colour therapy
  •   Week 2 - Understanding of scale and three dimensional space / Interpret plans and elevations
  •   Week 3 - Creating a personal Mood Board
  •   Week 4 - Brief analysis / Introduction to space planning techniques
  •   Week 5 - Working on individual renovation plans based on a given design brief
  •   Week 6 - How to present a hand drawn renovation plan / rendering techniques
  •   Week 7 - Using PowerPoint as a client presentation tool / hand drawn client presentation skills
  •   Week 8 - Produce a final A3 presentation for clients

  This short course is non-accredited therefore is not registered with the National Training Register.

There are no formal entry requirements for this course.

Resources required

You will need to bring:

  • HB pencil
  • eraser
  • biro
  • scissors
  • coloured pencils (standard 12 pack) or water coloured pencils (optional)
  • metal scale ruler (ex Bunnings tool department)
  • fine line black permanent marker
  • glue stick

Other stationery suggestions will be discussed during class.

Please note:  You will need to bring your own refreshments.
