Course overview

This manual machining program will provide you with skills and knowledge required to gain employment in fitting and machining works. The focus of the program is on the use of lathes and milling machines and will take you from introductory to advanced levels.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course.

Resources required

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Important: During the training students must supply their own personal protective equipment. Students failing to meet minimum standards of dress (steel capped safety boots, safety glasses, cotton shirt and pants) will not be permitted entry into practical classes.

The personal protective equipment will consist of:

  • Industrial footwear to conform with AS2210 – steel capped boots/shoes
  • Safety glasses to conform to AS 1336 (clear lens)
  • Cotton shirt and pants


Students will need to bring to class:

  • Ballpoint pen
  • Note book
  • Scientific Calculator

Other materials maybe required for assignment work; these will be discussed in class.

Participants failing to meet minimum standards of dress will not be permitted entry into classes.
