Course overview

Get a head start on your career in the sports industry with this entry-level qualification. Develop the practical skills you need to work as an assistant coach in community-based sports clubs and organisations. According to the Australian Government's labour market insights there is expected to be strong future growth in job opportunities for sports coaches, instructors and officials with employers looking for candidates who are reliable and caring with good customer service skills.

During this course you'll develop a range of skills required to work under the supervision of a coach to engage participants in sport. You'll also learn how to provide equipment for activities, participate in conditioning training for sport, conduct sport coaching sessions with intermediate-level participants, and assist supervisors to prepare, conduct, monitor and evaluate activity sessions.

Successful completion of this course will qualify you to work or volunteer in assistant coaching roles at community-based sports clubs and organisations.

Academy of Sport
TAFE Queensland's Academy of Sport is an athlete development program that promotes excellence by equipping young regional athletes with the right tools to pursue success in and outside the sporting arena.

The Academy brings together peak sporting organisations across Queensland with TAFE Queensland facilities and focuses on practical learning in a sporting context. Sessions are broken into a combination of theory and hands-on delivery to advance the learning experience.

Additionally, you will be introduced to sports industry professionals for specialised training workshops.

Academy of Sport fee: $100 (for athlete journal and uniform).
