Course overview

This skill set provides the required skills and knowledge to operate a slewing mobile crane with a maximum rated capacity of up to 100 tonnes. A person performing this work is required to hold the appropriate High Risk Work (HRW) licence. This unit requires a person operating a slewing mobile crane to plan the work, conduct pre‑operational checks, set up and stabilise the crane, operate the crane to lift and move loads, and then shut down and secure the equipment safely. You will learn directly from industry experts, gaining  the practical, hands‑on experience needed to confidently manage this high‑responsibility role. This unit will ensure you are skilled, competent, and qualified to operate a slewing mobile crane (up to 100 tonnes), meeting strict safety and regulatory requirements for high‑risk crane operations.

    This unit specifies the skills and knowledge required to safely operate a slewing mobile crane with a Maximum Rated Capacity (MRC) up to 100 tonnes, in accordance with all relevant legislative responsibilities. Competence in this unit, does not in itself result in a High-Risk Work Licence (HRWL) to operate this plant.

Selection criteria

To enrol in this skill set you are required to be over the age of 18, be physically capable of performing the tasks required for crane operation and be eligible to apply for the relevant High Risk Work licence through the state regulator.

Resources required

You are responsible for meeting the minimum occupational health and safety requirements as per site requirements.
All personal protective equipment and stationery is to be supplied at your own cost.
This includes the use of:

  • safety glasses
  • protective footwear with safety toe cap and non-slip soles to AS2210
  • gloves
  • helmet
  • long sleeved high vis vest
  • long trousers

You will also require:

  • pen
  • notebook
