Course overview

The Essential Eight Essentials Course has been created by the TAFEcyber Consortium in response to industry need for an Essential Eight ‘introductory’ course and is delivered by TAFEcyber members.

The Essential Eight Essentials Course provides an in-depth introduction to the Australian Signals Directorate’s (ASD) Essential Eight Maturity Model. During the course participants will gain an appreciation of the history, context, and overall purpose of the Essential Eight cyber security mitigation strategies as well as an understanding of the key requirements of each mitigation strategy. Learning will be reinforced by practical exercises conducted in a lab environment.

It's about people as much as technology, encouraging individuals to contribute to a safer digital future.

Unlock your cybersecurity potential with the immersive Essential Eight Essentials Course with hands-on lab work to reinforce your learning.

Modules include:

  • Introduction to Essential Eight and the practice of compliance-based assessment.
  • Using the PowerShell scripting language.
  • Examining Windows security policies and settings that are relevant to the Essential Eight.
  • Application control and hardening.
  • Authentication, privilege escalation, and active directory networks.
  • Requirements for creating an Essential Eight assessment report.

You are required to complete an assessment via a scenario-based practical project facilitated by the instructor during delivery.

Upon successful completion of the Essential Eight Essentials Course, you will be ready to contribute to the implementation of Essential Eight Maturity Model within your own organisation and will be further prepared to undertake the Essential Eight Assessment Course if you do not currently meet eligibility requirements* or do not possess the underpinning knowledge required to successfully complete that course.

*Check the Essential Eight Assessment Course eligibility requirements.
