Working with People with Dementia is a practical short course designed for aged care workers and disability support staff who want to strengthen their dementia care skills. Focusing on communication, behaviour and essential care strategies, the course provides the knowledge and confidence to support people living with dementia in a respectful, person-centred way.
You will gain a foundational understanding of dementia, including how changes in the brain affect memory, communication and behaviour. The course explores effective communication techniques, person-centred approaches to care, and practical strategies for responding to behavioural changes in a respectful and supportive manner.
By the end of the course, you will have the knowledge and skills to communicate more effectively, better understand behaviours associated with dementia, and provide compassionate, quality care in aged care, disability and community settings.

TAFE Queensland can tailor this dementia education programme to meet the needs of your workforce and deliver the training on-site or at our local campus. Participants will develop greater confidence in supporting people living with dementia, responding to changed behaviours, and understanding how brain changes impact communication, cognition and daily functioning.
This course provides essential dementia care knowledge that can be applied immediately in residential aged care, home care and community support and disability support, helping workers deliver more confident, informed and person-centred care.
