If you’re a resident of either Thursday Island or Northern Peninsula Area, already hold a certificate IV qualification in training and education (TAE) or training and assessment (TAA), and would like to upgrade your qualification, you may also be eligible for funding under this program.
TAFE Queensland is offering a five day workshop at the TAFE Queensland Thursday Island campus, taking place between Monday 17th June and Friday 21st June 2019. There you’ll be able to upgrade your existing certificate IV qualification to meet current industry expectations.
If you wish to participate in this program you must be able to attend training for the full duration and must submit a copy of your existing certificate IV qualification before attending the course.
To achieve the upgraded qualification you will be required to complete two additional units of competency (TAEASS502 and TAELLN411) as well as undertake recognition of prior learning (RPL) assessments for two further units (TAEASS401 and TAEASS403).
The cost of upgrading an existing certificate IV TAE or TAA qualification will be no more than $100 for eligible applicants from Thursday Island and Northern Peninsula Area.

Delivery of the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40116) on Thursday Island and in Northern Peninsula Area is a project funded through the Regional Skills Adjustment Strategy (RSAS). RSAS is a three-year initiative targeting specific regions of Queensland facing economic uncertainty by supporting workers that are at risk of being displaced from traditional industries, or retrenched as a result of significant company closures. RSAS also provides proactive support to employers in target sectors to build workforce resilience and address skills or labour shortages. RSAS supports those individuals to gain the foundation, employability and technical skills needed to transition to the jobs of the future.Learn more
