A little shimmer for the summer
If you're wanting a fresh shimmer for summer, here's an easy summer makeup routine that you can follow from our beauty teachers.
Prepping your skin:
- Moisturiser with SPF: Start by applying a lightweight moisturiser with SPF to protect your skin from the sun. Opt for a gel-based or oil-free moisturiser if you have oily skin. Remember to stay sun safe!
- Primer (optional): If you want your makeup to last longer, apply a hydrating or mattifying primer depending on your skin type.
Light coverage:
- Tinted Moisturiser or BB Cream: For a natural finish, use a tinted moisturiser or BB cream instead of foundation. These products provide light coverage and a dewy finish.
- Concealer: Use a lightweight concealer to cover blemishes or dark circles under your eyes. Choose one that is hydrating and doesn’t feel heavy.
Brows:
- Brow Gel or Pencil: Lightly fill in your brows using a tinted brow gel or a pencil for a more natural, soft look. Focus on the sparse areas for a more defined shape.
Eyes:
- Cream Eyeshadow or Tinted Eyelid Primer: Skip the powder shadows and go for a cream eyeshadow or a tinted eyelid primer. These are quick, easy, and long lasting.
- Mascara: Apply a coat or two of waterproof mascara to lift and define your lashes. Waterproof formulas are perfect for sweat and humidity during the summer.
- Optional soft eyeliner: If you like more definition, opt for a soft eyeliner in a neutral colour like brown or taupe, smudged along your lash line.
Cheeks:
- Cream Blush: Use a cream blush for a natural, dewy glow. Cream formulas are great for the summer as they blend easily into the skin and give a fresh look.
- Bronzer: A light bronzer can add warmth to your face. Apply it along your cheekbones, temples, and jawline for a sun-kissed glow.
Lips:
- Tinted Lip Balm or Lip Gloss: Choose a tinted lip balm or a sheer lip gloss for a natural, hydrated look. Opt for a soft pink or peach shade for a fresh vibe.
Setting:
- Setting Spray (optional): Finish with a light mist of setting spray to lock everything in place and help your makeup last throughout the day.
Quick tips for summer makeup:
- Keep it minimal: Summer is all about embracing a more natural look, so focus on enhancing your features rather than covering them up.
- Light textures: Go for lightweight, hydrating formulas that won't feel heavy on your skin in the heat.
- Avoid too much powder: Instead of setting with powder, try using a setting spray to keep your makeup dewy and fresh.
