In order to attend a graduation ceremony, you must be eligible to graduate. That means you need to have completed all the requirements of your course including all units, assessments and exams.
Invitations to attend graduation will only be sent to eligible students. If you are expecting to graduate and haven't received a graduation email, please contact graduation.eastcoast@tafeqld.edu.au
Graduate ticket - $71.50
The price of the ticket includes GST, service fees, entry, regalia (gown rental) and catering. Drinks will be available for purchase.
Guest ticket - Free (two tickets per graduate)
Guests are required to register for their tickets to attend the ceremony. The ticket includes catering before the ceremony.
Due to venue limitations, we can only provide two guest tickets per graduand.
If course fees are not fully paid, students will be ineligible to attend the graduation ceremony, unless on an arranged payment plan with Student Services. The formal qualification will be sent to the student after all outstanding fees are paid in full.
Individual circumstances will be considered when determining eligibility. If you're unsure about your status, please contact graduation.eastcoast@tafeqld.edu.au
What happens on graduation day?
You will confirm your arrival at the registration area and be provided with important event information. It can be amended on the spot if anything is incorrect (like your name or qualification).
It is here that you will be given your seating allocation. It’s important that you stay in your assigned seat throughout the ceremony. Your seat determines the order in which you’ll be called to the stage. So please, stay seated in your assigned seat and help us keep things running smoothly.
After registration, graduands will be directed to the gowning area. This is where you get the academic regalia you ordered, such as your grad gown and mortarboard.
The gowning attire is available for hire only. You will get to keep your black mortarboard (graduation cap) as a memento, but all other rented items must be returned to the gowning room post-ceremony, or you will be charged a fee.
Choose your gown size based on your height. Measure your height from the top of your head to the floor while standing straight without shoes, then select the corresponding gown size when purchasing your ticket.
- Size 44 - 151cm to 155cm
- Size 46 - 156cm to160cm
- Size 48 - 161cm to 165cm

- Size 58 - 186cm to 190cm
- Size 60 - 191cm to 195cm
Choose your cap size by measuring the circumference of your head. Using a soft measuring tape, measure around your head just above your ears and eyebrows, then select the corresponding cap size when purchasing your ticket.
- Small: 53cm to 55cm
- Medium: 56cm to 58cm
- Large: 59cm to 61cm

Before the ceremony is due to begin, you need to attend a compulsory student briefing. You will be called in by a TAFE Queensland Events team and find your assigned seat you received at registration.
During the briefing, we’ll explain how the celebration works and what to expect. Your seating allocation determines the order in which you’ll walk across the stage. It’s essential that you remain in your assigned seat to ensure your name is read out in the correct order.
Once the briefing is complete and all students are seated, guests will be invited into the venue, and the ceremony will commence.
An average Graduation ceremony takes around 45 minutes and involves the following:
The academic procession enters the Auditorium, and the assembly stands
- Acknowledgement of Country
- Welcome to graduands and guests
- Official conferral of awards
- Conclusion of the ceremony
Walking across the stage
Walking across the stage is your moment to shine during the ceremony. Our friendly ushers will guide you through the process on the day, so there is no need to worry if you forget a step.
Once it’s time, you’ll hear your name called and start walking across the stage.
You then proceed to the other side of the stage, where you will shake hands with the General Manager; they will present you with a congratulatory letter and will face you to the audience for your guests to capture the moment.
This is the part of the ceremony where your family and friends cheer as loud as possible and applaud you on your major accomplishment.
Once you leave the stage, our ushers will guide you back to the seats.
Graduation Etiquette
As a courtesy, please remain in your seat for the duration of the ceremony and place mobile phones on silent mode.
