New high-tech trade training hub at Ashmore

Electrical and air-conditioning refrigeration apprentices at TAFE Queensland have moved into their new innovative training building at the Ashmore Trade Training Centre.

The $1.5 million fitout has state-of-the-art equipment which benefits over 1,200 students studying across the electrical and air conditioning refrigeration streams.

TAFE Queensland General Manager on the Gold Coast, Karen Dickinson, said the refurbished building is equip with the latest industry technology.

“In collaboration with local industry we designed the most high-level training centre on the Gold Coast for electrical and air-conditioning refrigeration apprentices,” said Ms Dickinson.

“It has 36 live wiring bays allowing students to complete their practical wiring assessment in an electrically safe environment.”

“The air-conditioning and refrigeration area boasts eight cool rooms with two being freezer room options, as well as a practical workshop area and hybrid practical and theory room.”

“There is also a space dedicated to the delivery of data communications technology.”

Ms Dickinson said these areas have significantly enhanced the quality of learning for students, improved delivery and customer satisfaction and have met industry standards of compliance and currency.

“TAFE Queensland is training our future tradies and our investment is invaluable when it comes to giving Gold Coasters the skills they need for the jobs of the future,” said Ms Dickinson.

This space once housed the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games Corporation office and now it is a built for purpose, industry-grade learning space.
