Gold Coast sparky ready to take on WorldSkills

Gold Coast electrician, Dylan Redman is gearing up to turn his skills into Gold as he represents Australia at the 47th WorldSkills International Championships in Lyon, France.

The Ashmore campus graduate will compete in the Electrical Installation category at the world’s largest skills competition, featuring over 1,500 participants from 75 countries.

Dylan, 22-year-old from Gaven, said he is excited and honored to represent Australia.

“It’s a chance to not only showcase my skills but also to connect with other top talents from around the world," Dylan said.

"This experience is a dream come true, and I’m determined to make the most of it, both for myself and for the industry I’m passionate about."

Dylan's journey to this momentous occasion began when he won the gold medal for Electrical Installation at the WorldSkills Australia 2023 National Competition in Melbourne.

In a display of skill and precision, he outshone hundreds of young apprentices from across the nation, solidifying his position as Australia's top electrical apprentice.

“The nerves, the butterflies, the anxiety, all built up to that one moment, hearing my name being called to receive the gold medal. It really was a dream come true and I will never forget that moment,” he said.

Dylan is one of five TAFE Queensland students who will represent Australia in their vocation on the Skillaroos team.

Karen Dickinson, General Manager of TAFE Queensland Gold Coast, expressed pride in Dylan’s accomplishment and the broader achievements of TAFE Queensland students.

“Dylan has done TAFE Queensland and the Gold Coast proud, and has dedicated himself to becoming a world-class tradesman,” she said.

“WorldSkills competitions encourage our students and apprentices to take pride in their craft, and help to drive quality employees at a time when the nation needs skilled workers,” she added.

“TAFE Queensland provides quality training across many industries and Dylan is a key example of the high-quality graduates produced at TAFE Queensland.”
