TAFE Queensland drives innovation at 2025 Brisbane Truck Show
TAFE Queensland is leading the charge in shaping the future of training and workforce development, thanks to five major projects funded by the Queensland Government’s $13 million Regional Economic Futures Fund (REFF).
As part of this initiative, TAFE Queensland’s Emerging Industries Business Development Manager, Sue Sheppard, attended the 2025 Brisbane Truck Show to connect directly with industry leaders and explore new ideas for training innovation.
Held at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre from 15 - 18 May 2025, the Truck Show attracted a record-breaking 54,790 attendees, making it the largest industry exhibition in Australia and the biggest truck show in the Southern Hemisphere.
With over 35,000 square metres of exhibits and hundreds of exhibitors showcasing the latest in transport technology, the event was a prime opportunity for TAFE Queensland to engage with key stakeholders.
“This show is a powerhouse of innovation. It’s where the trucking industry comes together to talk about what’s next—and that’s exactly why we were there,” Ms Sheppard said.
“The five REFF-funded projects TAFE Queensland is leading will help future-proof Queensland’s workforce, especially in emerging industries and the renewable energy sector,” she said.
The event provided an ideal opportunity to speak with manufacturers, technology providers, and training experts about how safety and new technologies—like automation, electric vehicles, and smart systems—can be built into training programs.
“We’re not just looking at what’s available now,” Ms Sheppard explains.
“We’re exploring what’s coming next and how we can prepare students, employers and educators alike to work safely and effectively in emerging industries.”
Walking through the event, Mrs Sheppard also gathered ideas for equipment and technology that could be used in the Mobile Renewable Energy Training Facility (MRETF), which will deliver hands-on training to regional and remote communities.
“The MRETF will be a game-changer,” Ms Sheppard said.
“It will allow TAFE Queensland to advance emerging industries and renewable-related training in places like Cloncurry, Banana Shire and Goondiwindi—places that are vital to Queensland’s renewable energy future.”
TAFE Queensland’s presence at the Truck Show highlights its commitment to aligning training with industry needs and ensuring Queensland’s workforce is ready for the jobs of tomorrow.
