Cherbourg celebrates its latest graduates

On Wednesday 3 December 2025, the Cherbourg community gathered to celebrate its newly graduated students, at the TAFE Queensland Nurunderi campus.

TAFE Queensland has celebrated the achievements of its 2025 graduates at the Nurunderi Campus in Cherbourg, bringing together students, families, Elders and community partners on Wakka Wakka Country.

The ceremony opened with an acknowledgement of the Traditional Owners and Elders past, present and emerging, recognising the deep cultural strength and community pride that defines the region.

Graduates were recognised across Certificate III in Business, Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing and Disability), and Certificate I in Construction. Some students completed their certificates through the TAFE at School program, giving them a valuable head start, while others progressed into vocational qualifications that prepare them directly for work in local industries.

Campus Coordinator Tabitha Bleys congratulated the graduates and spoke about the significance of studying locally. “Many of our students began this journey unsure if they could fit study into busy lives, and yet here they are, crossing the stage with skills, confidence and strong connections. Their achievements show what is possible when education and community come together.”

TAFE Queensland acknowledged its partnerships with local employers, schools and community leaders, which ensure training remains practical, culturally appropriate and aligned with community needs. This work is supported through the organisation’s commitment to its Reconciliation Action Plan.

Mayor Bruce Simpson’s support for local training pathways was also recognised, along with his encouragement for young people to take hold of the opportunities available to them.

Among the graduates was Melissa Stewart, who completed her Certificate III in Business (BSB30210) with her family cheering proudly from the crowd (pictured above). Her story is just one of many that reflects the strong support networks that play a vital role in student success.

The ceremony closed with warm recognition of the families, Elders and community members who walked alongside the graduates throughout their studies.

TAFE Queensland congratulates the 2025 Nurunderi graduates and looks forward to the impact they will make across Cherbourg and the South Burnett.
