High-tech donation helps students calibrate their future
TAFE Queensland students are now training with one of the most advanced calibration tools in the industry, thanks to a generous donation from Stanwell Corporation in conjunction with global instrumentation company Beamex.
The Beamex MC6 multifunction calibrator and communicator – valued at around $58,000 – is used across industrial sectors to test, verify and document the performance of process instruments in the field. It can measure and simulate pressure, temperature, current, voltage and frequency, and supports digital workflows used by technicians across the world.
TAFE Queensland North region Faculty Manager for Building and Industries, Andy Kent, said the donation reflects the strength of the TAFE Queensland’s industry partnerships.
“We’re incredibly grateful to Stanwell Corporation for this generous contribution,” Mr Kent said.
“Having access to the latest technology ensures our students are learning with the same tools they’ll use in industry – building their confidence, sharpening their skills, and helping them transition smoothly into the workforce.”
“Industry partnerships like this one are essential to providing high-quality, hands-on training that leads to real careers.”
The Beamex MC6 will be used throughout the Certificate III in Instrumentation and Control (UEE31220), helping students complete critical assessment tasks and meet industry standards.
From calibrating a pressure transmitter to troubleshooting signal loops, students will use the Beamex MC6 to simulate, measure and document a range of process variables. Its digital documentation features also teach students how to manage data, support compliance, and work with calibration software – key skills for modern industrial environments.
“This device will be invaluable for students through every stage of the course,” Mr Kent said. “It’s more than a tool – it’s a real-world learning experience.”
TAFE Queensland purchased two Beamex MC6 devices last year to support growing training needs, with the donation extending the impact across more students and practical sessions.
AMS-IC Queensland Sales Manager Brian Plose, who regularly visits the Townsville Trade Training Centre to share industry insights said, “Since the introduction of the Beamex MC6 multifunction documenting calibrator / communicator, back in 2013 this calibrator has changed the face of how calibrations were performed with its versatility and ease of use, combined with the calibration software CMX creates a powerful combination.”
“This equipment has become an industry standard in Queensland throughout many industries, CSG, Power, Sugar, Mining, Minerals Processing, Councils, Food & Beverage and Defence to name a few.”
“A special thanks from me personally to Stanwell Corporation, Beamex and AMS for coming together to make this happen, it’s going to be a real pleasure to walk into a TAFE Queensland campus and see students learning their trade using this equipment.”
The Certificate III in Instrumentation and Control (UEE31220) is delivered at TAFE Queensland’s Bohle campus in Townsville, with students undertaking hands-on training in industrial automation, process control, and instrumentation systems.
