TAFE Queensland’s Robina campus makes history

TAFE Queensland’s Robina campus has made history, becoming the first TAFE in Australia to be named Sustainability Institution of the Year at the 2025 Green Gown Awards Australasia.

Chosen ahead of strong finalist Western Sydney University, the recognition celebrates the Robina campus’s groundbreaking model, where sustainability is embedded across every course, partnership and student experience.

TAFE Queensland Gold Coast General Manager Karen Dickinson, said the achievement is bigger than a trophy, it's a milestone for the VET sector and a defining moment for the campus.

“To be the first TAFE in the country to win this award is extraordinary,” Ms Dickinson said.

“This is not just a win for Robina, it's a win for every student, every teacher, every partner and the community who believes vocational education is vital to Australia’s sustainability transformation.”

“We set out to create a campus that doesn’t just teach sustainability, it lives and breathes it. The win proves that vision matters, courage matters and action matters.”

Since opening in July 2022, TAFE Queensland Robina has become Australia’s benchmark for sustainable VET delivery, built on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

“This win tells every student who walks through our doors that they are part of something bigger, a movement, not just a qualification,” Ms Dickinson said.

Now in their 16th year, the Green Gown Awards Australasia are the highest honour in sustainability for tertiary education across Australia and New Zealand and this year, TAFE Queensland has made history.

The win propels TAFE Queensland onto the global stage, with the Robina campus now set to represent Australasia as a finalist in the International Green Gown Awards next year.
