Ashleigh builds a career driven by purpose and growth
After many years working in early childhood education and care, Ashleigh Smith has built a rewarding career with TAFE Queensland, progressing from teacher to leader within the organisation.
Passionate about education and student success, Ashleigh said she loved her role as an early childhood educator and was excited by the opportunity to become a teacher with TAFE Queensland in 2015.
Over the years, Ashleigh continued to grow professionally, taking on leadership opportunities that expanded her impact across the organisation.
She progressed to an Educational Team Leader role within the Nursing and Community Services Faculty in 2021, before moving to the Senior College and Community Pathways faculty in 2024.
Most recently, Ashleigh stepped into the role of Operations Manager for the Faculty of Senior College and Community Pathways, where she now supports students, staff and operational outcomes across the faculty.
Ashleigh said the support she received throughout her career journey at TAFE Queensland played a crucial role in her progression.
She credited supportive managers and mentors for encouraging her every step of the way, helping her build confidence and leadership capability as she progressed through a range of roles.
She also said completing the organisation’s Emerging Leader Program was instrumental in preparing her for leadership opportunities and where she is today.
She said one of the things she values most about working at TAFE Queensland is the opportunity to continue growing while making a meaningful difference for students and communities.
“At TAFE Queensland, if you work hard and genuinely care about what you’re doing, there are opportunities to grow and try different things,” said Ashleigh.
Ashleigh said the organisation’s strong sense of purpose and values-driven culture continue to inspire her in every role she undertakes.
“We always have students, communities and outcomes at the forefront of everything we do, and that’s something I’m really proud to be part of,” concluded Ashleigh.
