Fully funded digital construction skills training
A series of free online digital construction micro-credentials is helping construction workers build the skills needed to thrive in an increasingly technology-driven industry.
The construction industry is undergoing rapid digital transformation, driven by modern methods of construction (MMC), increasing safety and compliance requirements, digital job-site systems and technology-enabled workflows. Yet many current and emerging workers lack the foundational digital skills needed to confidently and safely operate in these environments.
To help address this growing skills gap, the TAFE Centre of Excellence Construction Tech (Centre) has launched the Digital Construction pilot program. This fully funded initiative offers a suite of short, targeted and stackable micro-credentials to build the digital capabilities increasingly required across the construction sector.
Digital Construction focuses on improving digital confidence and readiness for workers, apprentices, small to medium enterprises and career changers as technology becomes embedded in everyday construction practices.
There are eight micro-credentials in the suite and begin with core digital foundation skills, including mobile communication, document submission, online collaboration and digital systems. They then progress to construction-focused learning on emerging and enabling technologies such as geospatial awareness, autonomous equipment and the practical use of digital technologies in day-to-day construction activities.
The Digital Construction micro-credentials are:
Connecting devices and submitting documents (MCC00212)
Using emails and the internet (MCC00213)
Using mobile apps for communication (MCC00214)
Scheduling calls and sharing information (MCC00215)
Geospatial awareness for construction (MCC00216)
Introduction to autonomous equipment (MCC00217)
New technology foundations (MCC00218)
Using digital technology for routine tasks (MCC00219)
Delivered through mobile-friendly online learning platforms, the program uses practical construction scenarios, interactive learning resources and competency-based assessment tasks to ensure skills can be applied directly in the workplace.
With a strong focus on accessibility, the initiative aims to support regional and First Nations learners, increase participation in digitally integrated construction environments and establish a scalable digital capability pathway that prepares workers for modern methods of construction and emerging construction technologies.
The TAFE Centre of Excellence Construction Tech, led by TAFE Queensland, is a joint initiative between the Australian and Queensland Governments.
