Grant's job is making a difference in driving global success
For Grant Job, TAFE Queensland – SkillsTech educator and WorldSkills mentor, supporting apprentices like Rebekah Swindells to achieve success on the global stage in Wall and Floor Tiling is both a professional achievement and a personal honour.
As a passionate trainer with strong industry experience, Grant has played an important role in helping Rebekah develop her technical skills and confidence, supporting her journey from apprentice to one of the country’s top young tradeswomen.
“I take a lot of pride in being part of a student’s journey, especially when they achieve at the highest level,” Grant said.
“At TAFE Queensland - SkillsTech, we’re in a position where we can combine real industry experience with quality training to help our students reach goals they may never have imagined possible.”
Rebekah won the Gold Medal in Wall and Floor Tiling at the 2025 WorldSkills Australia National Championships, demonstrating exceptional skill, precision and dedication throughout the competition.
Unfortunately, Rebekah narrowly missed the age cut-off to progress to the WorldSkills International Competition in Shanghai in September 2026. Despite this, her achievements continue to inspire students, educators and the wider industry.
In another major achievement, Rebekah was also awarded the Apprentice of the year at the 2025 Cheers Up, Tools Down Future Lady Tradies Awards Night, recognising her outstanding contribution to the trades and her commitment to excellence in a traditionally male-dominated industry.
For Grant, being part of Rebekah’s journey has been a standout moment in his career.
“It’s been a privilege to work with Rebekah,” he said.
“She’s committed, hardworking and always striving to improve. To see her grow from a capable apprentice into a national gold medallist has been incredibly rewarding as a teacher and mentor.”
Grant said Rebekah’s achievements highlight the strength of TAFE Queensland – SkillsTech's training model, where students are supported with industry-relevant skills, expert guidance and access to high-quality facilities and mentoring.
“We’re not just training students for a job, we’re preparing them for long-term careers and giving them the confidence to back their skills,” he said.
“WorldSkills is a powerful example of what happens when talent, hard work and the right support come together. It creates opportunities that can change lives.”
Rebekah has recently completed her Certificate III in Wall and Floor Tiling at TAFE Queensland and is already looking to expand her career by undertaking a dual trade qualification. Her drive to continue learning reflects the passion and determination that has defined her success so far.
In his humble way, Grant credits TAFE Queensland – SkillsTech's strong support network for helping students and educators achieve success.
“There’s a lot that goes into preparing for competition at this level,” he said.
“TAFE Queensland - SkillsTech has been incredibly supportive throughout the process by providing the time, resources and environment needed for students like Rebekah to continue developing and refining their skills.”
With access to industry-standard facilities and dedicated mentoring, students are able to push beyond their limits and perform at an elite level, reflecting TAFE Queensland SkillsTech’s commitment to excellence in vocational education.
Grant hopes Rebekah’s journey will inspire more young Queenslanders, particularly women, to consider careers in trades and technical industries.
“Rebekah’s success shows what’s possible,” he said.
“If you’re willing to learn, put in the effort and back yourself, a trade can open doors and take you further than you ever imagined.”
