Industry donation powers new training opportunities for Dalby students

The donation, which includes three engines, will provide students with valuable access to real-world equipment, helping them build the practical skills needed to succeed in the automotive and heavy industry sectors.

TAFE Queensland General Manager (South West Region), Kate Venables, said partnerships like this were critical to delivering industry-aligned training across regional Queensland.

"As the Western Downs regional economy continues to grow, we're focused on ensuring local people have access to training that prepares them for the jobs of today and the workforce opportunities of tomorrow,” said Ms Venables.

"We're grateful for the support our industry partners who share our commitment to developing a skilled local workforce.”

The engines, two Cat 3306 6 cylinder models and one Cat 3208 V8, will enhance training capability at the Dalby campus, addressing previously identified gaps in access to large-scale equipment for competency-based learning.

The donated heavy duty diesel engines will support apprentices studying the Certificate III in Engineering – Fixed and Mobile Plant Mechanic (MEM31419), helping them develop specialised skills in diagnosing, maintaining and repairing large-scale plant and equipment.

This practical qualification prepares students to become trade-qualified plant mechanics, equipping them with the skills required for assembly and commissioning of mobile and stationary plant, fault diagnosis, condition monitoring, and preventative maintenance.

With more than 85 per cent of TAFE Queensland graduates going on to employment or further study within six months, industry partnerships play a vital role in strengthening student outcomes and meeting workforce demand.

The donation reflects a strong and ongoing partnership between TAFE Queensland and RSA Contractors, whose team also engages with the campus for training.

RSA Contractors Maintenance and Plant Manager Nicholas Rowe said the organisation was proud to support the next generation of diesel technicians.

“Supporting TAFE Queensland is an investment in the future workforce. Providing access to real equipment helps students develop practical, job-ready skills that benefit both industry and the local community,” he said.

RSA Contractors has also indicated a willingness to continue supporting the campus by exploring further opportunities to contribute equipment and resources.
