Justice studies help Faith find her voice

At the time, Faith didn't have every step of her future mapped out, but she knew she wanted to build her confidence, find her voice and develop the strength to stand up for herself after difficult experiences in life.

She didn't expect the Diploma of Justice Studies (10972NAT) to change the direction of her future.

But as she graduates from TAFE Queensland, Faith is continuing her studies in law and justice, with her sights firmly set on becoming a lawyer.

Faith's path to graduation wasn't always easy. Studying had to fit around the demands of life outside the classroom, and at times, the pressure felt overwhelming.

“Somehow, one assignment, one class and one step at a time, my classmates and I made it to graduation,” Faith said.

Looking back, Faith says the experience taught her that progress isn't about having everything figured out. It's about showing up, especially when things are hard.

There were late nights, pre-assessment nerves and the familiar relief of finally pressing submit.

Each moment helped build the resilience and determination that carried her to graduation - and helped her discover a passion for justice along the way.

When she first began the diploma, Faith wasn't sure where it would lead. Then the course began to shift something in her.

The more she learned about the justice system, the clearer her future became.

“What I didn't expect was to discover a genuine passion for the justice system along the way. The more I learnt, the more I realised this was the path I was meant to follow,” Faith said.

The Diploma of Justice Studies provides students with practical knowledge of the Australian justice system and can open pathways to further study in areas such as law, justice and criminology.

For Faith, it has become a stepping stone towards her long-term goal of becoming a lawyer and making a positive difference in people's lives.

One of the biggest lessons Faith will take from TAFE Queensland can't be measured by an assessment result: asking for help is a strength, not a weakness.

“I used to think I had to figure everything out on my own,” Faith said.

“But throughout this course, I learnt that some of the greatest growth comes from asking questions, leaning on your classmates, listening to your teachers and accepting support when you need it.”

The experience showed her that education is rarely something anyone does alone.

Students arrive with different backgrounds, experiences and ambitions, but classmates, teachers, family and friends can all play a powerful role in helping them reach the finish line.

“We all arrived here with different stories, but none of us made it here completely alone.”

For Faith, some of her most valuable memories are the people she met along the way.

She formed friendships with classmates who understood the pressure of assessments, celebrated the small wins and encouraged one another through the harder days.

“I was lucky enough to make friendships that I truly believe will last a lifetime. We built a community of individuals experiencing the same challenges, which made the journey more meaningful,” Faith said.

From late-night study sessions to assessment prep and the relief of completing an assignment, Faith and her classmates shared every high and low on the road to graduation.

For Faith, graduation is bigger than a qualification. It's a chance to show her young daughter what can happen when you believe in yourself and keep moving towards your goals.

“This graduation is about so much more than receiving a qualification. It's about showing my little girl that no dream is too big to chase and that no matter what life throws at you, with determination and hard work, you can create a better future.”

She hopes her daughter will one day look back on this moment and see a powerful lesson: it is never too late to back yourself and begin again.

Graduation may close this chapter of Faith's TAFE Queensland journey, but it marks the beginning of a new one in law and justice.

She is continuing her studies to become a lawyer and use both her education and lived experience to make a difference.

The confidence Faith hoped to find when she first enrolled has become one of the most powerful outcomes of her time at TAFE Queensland.

Reflecting on the journey, Faith encouraged her fellow graduates to be proud of how far they had come. Every challenge, sacrifice, late night and setback had helped bring them to this moment.

“The qualification we receive at graduation represents more than what we learned. It's proof of resilience, determination and ability to achieve something extraordinary,” Faith said.

As Faith and her fellow graduates look to what comes next, she hopes they carry forward the confidence they have built, the friendships they have made and the lessons they have learnt.

Their paths may now lead in different directions, but each graduate leaves with proof that they can achieve more than they may once have believed possible.

“Wherever life takes you next, never stop believing in yourself, because if there's one thing this journey teaches you, it's that you’re capable of far more than you ever imagined.”

For Faith, the journey began with a desire to find her confidence. It continues with a clear direction, a passion for justice and an ambition to become a lawyer.

TAFE Queensland helped Faith find her voice. Now, she's ready to use it.
