Marion is helping students build rewarding careers in community services
After more than 25 years spent empowering people with diverse needs to build confidence, achieve their goals, and live more independent lives, Marion Rosevear is now inspiring the next generation of community services professionals at TAFE Queensland.
Based at the Springfield campus, Marion teaches the Certificate III in Community Services (CHC32015), Certificate IV in Community Services (CHC42021), and Diploma of Community Services (CHC52025), helping students develop the skills and confidence they need to support others and build rewarding careers in the sector.
Prior to joining TAFE Queensland, she worked across mental health, disability support and the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), independent living services as well as supporting young people to learn work skills and find employment opportunities.
Her experience supporting people with diverse needs led her to complete a Bachelor of Psychological Science and further studies in behaviour analysis.
"I've probably been in industry for about 25 years. I particularly love working with diverse needs. I really think that is my passion," said Marion.
Marion's dedication to education was inspired long before she entered the classroom.
"Ever since I was a young girl, I knew I was going to work for TAFE," she said.
Coming from a family of educators, teaching felt like a natural progression. Throughout her career, Marion frequently found herself training staff, supporting professional development, and helping others build new skills.
"I've always had a passion about the sector within my career. I've always been put in situations where I've had to train clients or staff. I just really enjoyed that side as well," she explained.
Now approaching five years with TAFE Queensland, Marion's focus is on preparing students for the realities of working in community services.
"Ultimately, I try and prepare my students for the real world," Marion said.
Her teaching style combines industry theory with practical examples, helping students understand complex concepts through relatable stories and experiences.
"I love talking theory and then linking it with a real-life example. I think that's how students learn best," she said.
Marion says this approach is particularly valuable for students from diverse backgrounds and those learning English as a second or third language.
"When I can apply analogies to a concept, they understand that better," she said.
One of the most rewarding aspects of her role is watching students grow in confidence throughout their studies.
"I really love seeing confidence building in my students over time, and I enjoy seeing them achieve something they never thought they could," she said.
Marion is also passionate about showcasing the breadth of opportunities available within community services.
"Community services is vast. It's a large, diverse industry and I believe that people doing my courses are getting a great introduction to the sector," she said.
“The community services sector is broad and diverse, offering a wide range of career opportunities.”
“I believe students undertaking my courses gain a valuable insight into the sector and the important role it plays in supporting individuals and communities.”
Outside the classroom, Marion values the strong sense of community she has found at the Springfield campus.
"The Springfield campus is a pretty amazing place to work. We have an amazing culture at Springfield," she said.
"We have a very community vibe there. We all support one another and share the load whenever it's needed."
She says working alongside passionate colleagues is one of the highlights of her role.
"There are some really clever people at TAFE Queensland and such a pleasure to work with them and learn from them," she said.
For Marion, helping students discover their potential is what makes teaching at TAFE Queensland so rewarding.
"Seeing that confidence grow over time is incredibly rewarding,” she finished.
