New course helping businesses navigate the AI era

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is no longer a future concept - it is transforming the way organisations operate right now. Businesses that understand how to harness AI are already gaining an edge, using it to streamline processes, unlock insights from data, and improve customer experiences.

To help business leaders stay ahead of the curve, TAFE Queensland is launching a new Diploma of Artificial Intelligence (11287NAT) in March 2026. With a strong emphasis on hands-on training, the course supports learners to analyse data, implement AI solutions and solve everyday business challenges.

General Manager of TAFE Queensland’s Gold Coast region, Robert Petherbridge, said the diploma has been designed to meet the evolving needs of businesses across Australia.

“TAFE Queensland is committed to delivering cutting-edge industry-relevant training that helps businesses do what they do better. This course helps business owners, leaders and progressive professionals enhance their skills, gain specialised knowledge, and take the next step to analyse, implement, and solve real-world challenges, setting themselves apart in a competitive market,” said Mr Petherbridge.

Delivered online, the course focuses on practical application. Students will participate in industry-led masterclasses and work-integrated learning opportunities, building capability in prompt engineering and digital optimisation

Ethical use of AI is a key focus, ensuring learners can implement technology responsibly while driving growth.

“For small business in particular, AI can level the playing field,” he said.

“It enables businesses to automate routine tasks, sharpen their marketing, better understand their data and compete more effectively with larger organisations, all while maintaining an ethical approach to technology adoption.”

According to the 2024 Work Trend Index Annual Report from Microsoft and LinkedIn, AI has shifted from advantage to expectation, with four in five Australian leaders saying it’s now critical to maintaining a competitive edge.

“By equipping businesses with practical AI capability, we are supporting innovation, productivity and long-term economic growth,” said Mr Petherbridge.
