NIDA partnership expands access to world-class acting training in Brisbane

Through its partnership with the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA), TAFE Queensland is proud to bring world-class, skills-based acting and performing arts training opportunities to Brisbane.

Through the partnership, NIDA Open Brisbane offers a diverse range of short courses in acting, directing, musical theatre, screenwriting and more, delivered at the Norman Price Theatre at TAFE Queensland’s South Bank campus in Brisbane.

As Australia’s leading centre for dramatic arts education, NIDA has built a global reputation for developing some of the industry’s most influential creatives across stage and screen. The NIDA Open Program enables aspiring performers and storytellers in Queensland to access this expertise closer to home.

NIDA Open courses provide the perfect opportunity for young people (Grades 7-12) and adults to step into the world of performance, creativity and storytelling - without leaving the Sunshine State. Each course provides a supportive, engaging and inspiring environment where creativity can thrive.

For young people (Grades 7-12), term- and holiday-short courses are designed to inspire imagination through acting and creative storytelling for stage and screen.

For adults aged 18 and over, short courses offer practical skills development in acting for stage and screen.

Adults at all experience levels are welcome, whether they are just starting or seeking to refine their skills, with courses for beginners to intermediates.

NIDA Open also offers online courses across a range of creative disciplines.

Jackie French, Director of the Faculty of Creative Arts and Digital Design at TAFE Queensland Brisbane, said the partnership is creating new pathways for Queensland creatives.

“Through our partnership with NIDA, we’re giving Queenslanders direct access to one of the world’s most respected drama schools right here in Brisbane,” Ms French said.

“NIDA Open courses allow students of all ages and experience levels to develop their skills, build confidence and explore their creative potential in a professional and supportive environment.”

“This is about making world-class training more accessible and creating real opportunities for people to pursue their passion for performance and storytelling,” she said.

Gillian Meisner-Lemon, Head of NIDA Open, said the partnership reflects a shared commitment to accessibility and industry connection.

“NIDA is proud to work with TAFE Queensland, whose strong connection to industry in Queensland and commitment to accessible education aligns closely with our own values,” Ms Meisner-Lemon said.

“Together we are fostering an inclusive and dynamic learning environment for students of all experience levels in their own community.”

This partnership reinforces TAFE Queensland’s commitment to delivering industry-connected training and expanding pathways into Australia’s thriving creative sector.
