Powering First Nations pathways to clean energy careers
A free battery and renewable energy training program is supporting education and employment pathways for First Nations learners.
As Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities increasingly adopt solar and battery storage systems, there is a growing need for skilled local workers who can safely operate, maintain and support these technologies.
That's why the TAFE Centre of Excellence Clean Energy Batteries has partnered with the TAFE Queensland Centre for First Nations Training to develop the First Nations Renewable Energy and Battery Training Pathway.
The program is open to school-aged students and community members who want to build foundational skills in batteries and sustainability.
Through the program, participants can complete four online and self-paced micro-credentials for free, with each one taking three hours or less to complete.
Introduction to Battery Fundamentals (MCC00220) | Online | 2-3 hours
Learn how batteries work and how they are used in homes, businesses and communities.
Introduction to Battery Safety and Awareness (MCC00221) | Online | 2-3 hours
Explore battery types and develop the skills to safely use, handle, store and charge batteries.
Foundational Energy Literacy (MCC00222) | Online | 2-3 hours
Learn how to identify energy use, apply energy efficiency actions and estimate cost savings.
Foundational Energy Generation and Transmission (MCC00223) | Online | 2-3 hours
Understand how electricity is generated and delivered to homes and communities.
Solar and battery storage system uptake is increasing in rural and remote areas where access to reliable energy can be challenging.
As these technologies become more widespread, skilled local workers will be critical to ensuring systems are operated and maintained safely.
This training program is designed to create pathways into the renewable energy workforce while helping build local capability in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
The TAFE Centre of Excellence Clean Energy Batteries, led by TAFE Queensland, is a joint initiative between the Australian and Queensland Governments.
