Titans launch new initiative to open pathway into sport and leadership

The Gold Coast Titans have announced the launch of the Titans Institute, a new education initiative designed to create practical pathways for people looking to build careers in sport, business and leadership.

Delivered in partnership with TAFE Queensland through its Academy of Sport, the Titans Institute will provide access to nationally recognised qualifications supported by practical, industry-connected learning experiences.

Drawing on the people, operations and environment of a professional NRL club, the Institute will give students the opportunity to connect their studies with real-world industry insights and develop skills that can be applied across sport and the broader workforce.

The Institute will launch with the Diploma of Leadership and Management (BSB50420) in October 2026, giving participants the opportunity to develop real-world leadership skills within the context of a high-performance sporting environment.

The inaugural online program will be complemented by exclusive onsite experiences at the Titans’ training facilities, with additional face-to-face programs and industry learning opportunities set to roll out from early 2027.

Built around the principles that drive success in elite sport, Titans Institute will equip participants with practical leadership, communication and management capabilities that can be applied across sport, business and community settings.

Titans CEO Steve Mitchell said the Institute would become an important extension of the club’s commitment to developing people on and off the field.

“Titans Institute is about opening the doors of our club in a meaningful way and giving people the opportunity to learn through the lens of elite sport,” Mitchell said.

“We know the Gold Coast and surrounding communities are full of ambitious people who are passionate about sport, business and community leadership. This program provides a practical pathway to build confidence, develop leadership skills and gain valuable insights into what it takes to succeed in a high-performance environment.”

TAFE Queensland will support the Institute as the accredited training partner, bringing recognised vocational education expertise to the program and supporting the development of online and face-to-face learning opportunities.

TAFE Queensland Manager, Academy of Sport, Don Harley highlighted the value of partnering with the Gold Coast Titans to help develop the next generation of leaders.

“This partnership is about giving people access to high-quality training that is practical, connected to industry and focused on the skills people need to lead effectively in today’s workplaces,” Harley said.

“The Titans have a great story to tell, and there is so much that leaders from any industry can learn from professional sport - from building strong teams and cultures to communicating effectively, making decisions under pressure and getting the best out of people.

“That is what makes the Titans’ Diploma of Leadership and Management such a valuable opportunity. Students will be able to learn from the experiences of the Club while developing the practical leadership and management skills they can take back into their own workplaces and careers.”

Expressions of interest are now open for Titans Institute’s Diploma of Leadership and Management intake commencing in October 2026.
