14. Grades and awards

What You Need to Know

The Close of Study date is the final point in time where all learning and assessment activities must be complete.


Your final grades will be published in the TAFE Queensland Student Management System no later than 30 calendar days from the Close of Study date.

You will be automatically advised via email that a grade has been processed, which can be accessed via the Student Self Service portal.

If you cannot access this service, you may request a printed Record of Result.

Fees are applicable for an official Result of Assessment or Record of Results printed on official TAFE Queensland stationery. Refer to the Student Fee Schedule for more information. You can request your Official Academic History, which details all study completed with TAFE Queensland, via your student portal.

What You Need to Know

You are eligible for an Award upon completion of all academic requirements for your qualification.

If you are unsure of your eligibility to receive an Award, contact your TAFE Queensland region.

TAFE Queensland will issue your Award within 30 days of the final completion of your qualification, provided all fees owed to a TAFE Queensland have been paid and a valid Unique Student Identifier has been recorded.

For some qualifications TAFE Queensland provides the option of attending a graduation ceremony upon completion. If your qualification has a graduation ceremony we'll let you know.

What You Need to Know

A change of grade code will only occur when human error has been made or when you have had a result changed following a formal re-evaluation of assessment process or a successful academic appeal.

TAFE Queensland offers many different types of courses to suit your learning journey.

The type of study you undertake will determine what documents you are issued when you complete.

Each of our courses will list what the Course Outcome is so you can know before you start.

Please ask what award documents you will receive at time of enrolment if you are unsure.

You will be issued with the following documents upon successful completion of your study with us.

 

Accredited study 

Certificate/Diploma/Degree

If you are studying an accredited course with us and you successfully complete your studies, a Certificate, Diploma or Degree will be awarded to you.

These Awards will list your student details plus information about the course you have completed and when the Award was issued. You will also be issued with the following documentation:

For VET students

  • A Record of Results listing all successful study towards your Award – including competent, credit transfer and recognition of prior learning (RPL) grades.

For Higher Education students

  • A Record of Results listing all learning towards your Award – including pass, fail, recognition of prior learning (RPL), credit transfer, and post census date withdrawal grades.
  • An Australian Higher Education Graduation Statement. 

 

Statement of Attainment

If you are studying a Course in, a few units towards a Certificate (but not the complete Certificate) or a skill set, you will be issued a Statement of Attainment upon successful completion of all required units.

As required by the Australian Qualifications Framework, your student details plus information about each unit successfully completed will be listed on your Statement of Attainment.

There may be extra information also relating to currency of each unit (such as First Aid or CPR) or about your skill set.

 

Other study

Dependent on your type of study, you may receive a Micro-Credential or a Statement of Participation when you complete.

Your student details plus information about the study you have undertaken will be listed.

What You Need to Know

You are entitled to retain your Award or Statement of Attainment once it has been issued, unless the Award or Statement of Attainment is revoked by either TAFE Queensland or the National VET Regulator.

Grades, Awards and Statements of Attainment will be revoked when it has been identified that they have been issued in error, or because a document or representation was determined to be false, misleading, or was obtained or made in another improper way.

TAFE Queensland will provide you with written notification if your grade, Award or Statement of Attainment is being revoked by TAFE Queensland. The written notification will include;

  • The reasons for revoking the grade, Award or Statement of Attainment;
  • The date of the date of cancellation of the grade, Award or Statement of Attainment; and
  • Informing you of the appeals process.

What You Need to Know

You can request a re-issue of an award or Statement of Attainment in cases of:

  1. Loss of original documentation;
  2. Document not being received in the mail;
  3. Damage to original documentation;
  4. Incorrect information on original documentation; or
  5. Change of name.

The application should be made to TAFE Queensland using the Request for Re-Issue of an Award or Statement of Attainment Form, located in the student portal. You will also be required to submit appropriate supporting evidence:

  1. Loss/Non-Receipt: Current photographic identification, displaying your current name. Acceptable photographic identification  is a current driver’s license or learner’s permit, an Australian government issued proof of age card (18+ card), and current Passport;
  2. Damage or Incorrect Information: Return of original award/Statement of Attainment; and
  3. Change of Name: Return of original award/Statement of Attainment, Change of Name Form located in the student portal, and documentary evidence of the change of name, which includes:
    a.  Evidence of an update to your Unique Student Identifier profile; or
    b.  Current photographic identification, displaying your current name. Acceptable photographic identification includes a current driver’s license or learner’s permit, an Australian government issued proof of age card (18+ card), and current Passport; and
    c.   Change of name documentation from the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages.

Fees apply for the replacement of an Award or Statement of Attainment. Refer to the Student Fee Schedule for more information.

General Construction Induction Training Cards (White Card) Replacement

In order to receive your replacement General Construction Induction Training Card (White Card), you will instead need to complete the white card replacement form.

What You Need to Know

Internal Appeals:

If you believe that a decision to revoke a grade, Award or Statement of Attainment is unfair or incorrect, you have a right to appeal to your TAFE Queensland region’s Disciplinary and Appeals Committee.

If you are making an appeal, it must be made in writing and submitted to the regional General Manager within 20 business days of receiving the decision notice.

The region’s Disciplinary and Appeals Committee will then consider the appeal and respond to you.

 

External Appeals:

If you are still dissatisfied with the decision, you have the right to take the case to an external body, such as:

  • The Queensland Ombudsman;
  • Australian Skills Quality Authority; or
  • Queensland Department of Education and Training (for apprentices/trainees).

You are only allowed one external appeal decision. TAFE Queensland will give due consideration to the outcome of the external appeal.
