Norman Price Theatre
The theatre opened in 2007 after the relocation of the TAFE Queensland acting program from the Morningside campus to South bank. Originally named The Actor’s Space, the theatre was renamed the Norman Price Theatre in 2017 in memory of the late Norman Price, celebrated Queensland playwright, scholar and TAFE educator.
As well as operating as a teaching space, the Norman Price Theatre hosts an annual performance season featuring student productions and showcases, as well as events led by our industry partners the Australian Acting Academy and the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA).
Student productions across all three years of the acting program at the Norman Price Theatre are known for their range, sophistication and intensity, featuring works from Shakespeare to modern classics and contemporary cutting-edge playwrights.
Industry response to student productions
It was such a full, satisfying evening that reminded me why I love the theatre. To see such full throttle commitment by your students to such challenging, demanding, passionate work was very moving.
You seem to have really good actors both physically and emotionally – I felt that the images related accurately to my plays.

Our partnerships
National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA)
TAFE Queensland is proud to be in partnership with the National Institute of Dramatic Art in Sydney.
Each year NIDA offers scholarships for two exceptional 3rd year TAFE Queensland acting students to visit NIDA in Sydney to audit and participate in activities at the central school over a two-week study secondment.
Scholarships are also offered to acting and drama students to enroll into the NIDA Open Program and master workshops held with guest teachers from Sydney.
Australian Acting Academy
TAFE Queensland is proud to be in partnership with the Australian Acting Academy, an independent Brisbane organisation running acting classes for kids and teens since 1994.
Over this time, they have taught over 100,000 young people. The Academy holds various annual events and workshops in the Norman Price Theatre.
Many of their graduates enroll into the acting degree program at TAFE Queensland and our TAFE Queensland graduates are employed to teach for the academy. See website for details on annual classes and events.
Alumni projects
Each year TAFE Queensland supports a handful of alumni led projects through access to the rehearsal space at South Bank. This initiative continues our ongoing relationship with our graduate students and supports their pathway into and within the industry.
The graduate companies are required to submit a business case outlining their rehearsal dates, and practical support and experience they can offer our current students. To date, award winning companies such as Salad Days Collective & Cut and Run Productions have rehearsed major plays in the theatre with successful seasons at various local venues including Pip Theatre, Back Dock Arts, Vent Space and Queensland Theatre Door 3. Current students are invited to view dress runs with Q&A sessions and formal internships organised for our students to work with the companies. Guest directors and creatives working on the alumni projects are also invited to speak with our students as part of their study units.
