NDIS Workforce Fundamentals

Micro-credential

The NDIS Workforce Fundamentals is a micro-credential online course for workers who support people who access the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

This course has been developed on behalf of WorkAbility Qld in partnership with TAFE Queensland and has been co-designed in
collaboration with an Advisory Group of NDIS providers, and people with lived experience of disability.

Funding from Queensland’s Department of Employment, Small Business and Training (DESBT) has made this initiative possible.

  • Remove duplication of induction training for both the NDIS workforce and NDIS providers.

  • Applies to state-based and National legislation.
  • Is self-paced online and interactive course with activities (approximately 1 to 2 hours).

Disability support workers play a vital role in ensuring quality of life outcomes for people with lived experience of disability. Supporting people to achieve their goals is a privilege and important role. This micro-credential focuses on understanding this role and the importance of working within industry-standard professional frameworks.

It is a suitable learning option for people starting work in the disability sector and existing workers wishing to upskill or refresh their knowledge. It is also suitable for jobseekers and those workers transitioning from other industries who are looking to enter community and disability services.

Opportunities

During the course you will have opportunities for reflective practice and learn:

  • What the NDIS is, and how it links to human rights, professional frameworks, and legislation.
  • How to respond to ethical and legal breaches and maintain professional boundaries.
  • Key roles and responsibilities of a support worker and how to apply a person-centred and strengths-based approach.
  • The importance of communication, interpersonal skills, and respectful practice.
  • How to recognise and respond to signs of abuse and neglect.
  • Introduction to cultural sensitivity and cross-cultural communication.

Outcomes

Upon completion, course participants will be awarded a digital badge which shows learning outcomes.
