Course overview

Enhance your skills as a Coxswain Grade 1 or Ship Master with this specialised skill set. Upgrade your existing skills and gain the required competency to operate marine VHF radio and telephone equipment to communicate and transmit information to other vessels and to shore.

This course will equip you with the specialised knowledge and skills required to complete the external examination required to obtain a Short Range Operator Certificate of Proficiency (SROCP) issued by the Office of Maritime Communications.

Upon successful completion of this course you will have gained the necessary skills and knowledge to transmit and receive information by marine VHF radio.

    This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to: - transmit and receive information by marine very high frequency ( VHF) radio according to regulations - carry out user-maintenance and fault- finding procedures on radio equipment and power supplies - operate emergency position indicating radio beacons (EPIRBs), search and rescue radar transponders (SARTs), automatic identification system search and rescue transmitters (AIS-SARTs), AIS man overboard (AIS-MOB) device, and digital selective calling MOB (DSC-MOB) device.
