Course overview

Kick start your career in electronics and communications with this entry-level course. Gain the practical skills and knowledge required to become an electronics and communications tradesperson. Over the next five years there are expected to be 10,000 to 25,000 job openings for telecommunications trade workers.

You will learn how to select, install, set up, test, fault find, repair and maintain a wide range of electronic equipment and devices at component and sub-assembly level with options in communications audio, video and TV, personal computer and networks, security and custom installations. Our industry experienced teachers will give you all the one-on-one guidance and support you need to succeed.

Upon successful completion of this course you will be qualified to work as electronics and communications tradesperson. Apprenticeship candidates will be eligible to become a trade-qualified electronics and communications technician.  You will also have a solid foundation to continue with further study and advance your career.

There are no formal entry requirements for this course.

Selection criteria

To study an apprenticeship or traineeship program you must be indentured as an apprentice or trainee with your employer.

Employers need to be able to provide the necessary human and physical resources to qualify for an apprentice.

Resources required

You are responsible for meeting the minimum occupational health and safety requirements in practical classes.

This includes the use of:

  • safety glasses
  • protective footwear with safety toe cap and non-slip soles to AS2210
  • long leather gloves to AS2161
  • hair protection
  • 100% cotton drill industry-standard clothing

If you fail to meet these minimum standards of dress, you will not be permitted entry into practical classes.

You will be provided with a recommended reading list and/or required textbooks during orientation or at the start of each unit. The purchase of these resources may incur additional costs, or you may be able to borrow them from the TAFE Queensland library network.

You are also required to have access to and bring personal stationary:
