Course overview

Develop a broad range of knowledge and skills to embark upon a new career in warehousing operations. This course will provide you with the knowledge and skills required to work as a warehouse/logistics operator and may also give you an opportunity to gain your forklift or order picker licence.

The high Australian dollar during the past five years, plus new automation and tracking technology across the supply chain has supported strong growth in the industry. There are expected to be over 50,000 job openings in supply chain operations over the next five years. There is also increasing employment opportunities for higher skilled workers in larger enterprises.

This course will teach you how to move, store, receive, and dispatch goods correctly. It also covers key areas including the receipt and dispatch of product, warehouse equipment operations, checking and maintenance, occupational health and safety, customer service, teamwork, and resource management.

Successful completion of this course will equip you for operational within the supply chain industry for example as a warehouse/logistics operator or supply chain administration operator.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course.

Selection criteria

You must be employed in industry.

There are no formal entry requirements for this course, however literacy and numeracy skills equivalent to Year 10 are recommended.  A numeracy and literacy assessment will be conducted to identify any areas you may require learning support.   

If you are wishing to obtain your Forklift licence, you  must be at least 18 years of age. 

This course can be completed by a Traineeship or via a Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) process.

Traineeship pathway
To study a traineeship program you must be indentured as a trainee with your employer.

Employers need to be able to provide necessary human and physical resources to qualify for a trainee.

Resources required

You are responsible for meeting the minimum occupational health and safety requirements in practical classes.
This includes the use of:

  • safety glasses
  • protective footwear with safety toe cap and non-slip soles to AS2210
  • leather gloves to AS2161
  • hair protection
  • You should also wear high vis industry-standard clothing including long sleeved shirts and pants.

If you fail to meet these minimum standards of dress, you will not be permitted entry into practical classes.

Assessment methods

Skill and knowledge assessments are an essential step in progressing through your course. You may be assessed in a number of ways while you are studying at TAFE Queensland, including observation, written assessment, questioning, portfolios, work samples, third-party feedback, and through recognition of prior learning.
