Course overview

According to the Australian Government's Job Outlook service, there's strong future growth predicted for a range of digital creative roles including graphic and web designers and illustrators. It is predicted to be around 27,000 jobs created in these occupations over the next five years.

Delivery is through a mix of theoretical lessons and practical projects. Students will explore advanced design concepts with a focus on extending current knowledge in traditional areas such as typography, branding and layout design whilst also covering trending growth areas including UI/UX design, AI-enhanced design, motion graphics and creation of designs for digital media. Hands on experience will provide a deeper understanding of visual communication, project management, and client collaboration. 

Upon completion of this Advanced diploma graduates are well-equipped to pursue careers in the wide variety of design related areas, or to further their studies in specialised design fields. Our teachers are embedded in industry with many years of practical experience and are ready to help you get to the forefront of the workforce.

Entry requirements

To enrol into this qualification, you must have completed CUA50720 Diploma of Graphic Design.

Resources required

It is recommended that you have access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online learning system Connect, and a computer with up-to-date software. This equipment and software are available for use at all TAFE Queensland locations.

You will also be required to have access to and bring to class some design resources and a portable external hard drive (500GB minimum). Details will be provided after enrolment or during orientation. 
Please note: the purchase of these items may incur additional costs of approximately $300.

It is also recommended that you have access to a computer capable of running Adobe Creative Suite software. This software can be purchased after enrolment to access a student discount price.

Assessment methods

Skill and knowledge assessments are an essential step in progressing through your course. You may be assessed in a number of ways while you are studying at TAFE Queensland, including observation, written assessment, questioning, portfolios, work samples, third-party feedback, and through recognition of prior learning.
