Entry requirements
There are no formal entry requirements for this course.
Selection criteria
You must be in your senior years of high school as well as meet the following criteria:
- program selection must reflect your SET Plan options
- academic achievement should support your selection - a pass in Year 10 Maths and English is highly recommended (if you do not have a pass achievement you will require a support plan from the school explaining how they will support you to successfully complete the program)
- you must be enrolled, have regular attendance and remain in school for the duration of the program.
Resources required
It is recommended that you have access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online learning system Connect, and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player. This equipment and software is available for use at all TAFE Queensland locations.
You may also be required to purchase uniform items, including TAFE Queensland branded items. These details will be provided after enrolment or during orientation.
Placement
IMPORTANT NOTICE:
While TAFE Queensland will make every effort to minimise disruption to study, the current COVID-19 pandemic situation and subsequent restriction of access to some health care facilities during this time, may cause delays with vocational placement and completion of this course.
Students are advised that they will need to evidence maintenance of full COVID-19 vaccination to attend the mandatory vocational placement assessment components of this course.
The vaccines received must be approved by the Therapeutic Goods Administration for use in Australia or endorsed by the WHO-COVAX if vaccinated overseas. Please see the following link for the accepted vaccines.
National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)
This course now requires you to obtain a NDIS Worker Screening Check to be eligible to attend the vocational placement assessment component of your studies.
You are to apply for this NDIS Worker Screening Check once enrolled as TAFE Queensland will need to verify your application as a student.
During your course, TAFE Queensland will arrange a vocational placement for you in a health care facility, so you can start practising your new skills in a real-world environment. You’ll be required to work shifts determined by your placement provider. You may also be required to cover the cost of travel and/or accommodation necessary to complete your placement.
You are required to complete 80 hours of placement to satisfy this component of your qualification.
Need to know
For all students who are undertaking courses that include Vocational Placements in a high risk workplace, Queensland Health has directed that students must declare your COVID-19 Vaccination status and evidence to either TAFE Queensland or the placement provider.
This may require you providing us or the placement provider information on:
- Your vaccinate status
- Last date of vaccination
- Evidence of vaccine status
Where this information will be collected as part of your application and / or enrolment process. Any data collected will be managed under the TAFE Queensland Privacy Policy.
This requirement is in place for all students in affected courses, including TAFE at School students.
Those students who have a medical contraindication may be unable to complete the vocational placement component of their course. This means you may not be able to meet all of the requirements of your course and may not be able to graduate or receive your qualification.

You will need to complete a Criminal History Check (yellow card) and apply for a Blue Card (working with children check) for placement. Your current AFP documentation must be no older than 3 months prior to the start of study.
Blue Card
To successfully satisfy all course requirements you will be required to apply for a Blue Card (working with children check). Learn More

Immunisation Documentation:
You must provide a full vaccination history for all of the following vaccination regimes, including serology evidence of immunity where indicated. If you have a copy of your childhood vaccinations please email a scanned copy of these to studentmanagement.goldcoast@tafe.qld.edu.au. If you require further immunisation you will be advised.
- Full COVID-19 Vaccination – evidence of 2 vaccinations of a type approved by Therapeutic Goods Administration, Australia, or endorsed by the World Health Organisation. Students are advised that a booster may be deemed an additional requirement by health providers.
- Hepatitis B - you must commence or have undertaken an age appropriate course of vaccination. Students must not undertake an accelerated course of vaccination. To prove immunity you will need to have a blood test (serology) after the completion of the full vaccination course.
- Varicella (Chicken Pox) - provide serology or evidence of completed vaccinations.
- MMR (Measles Mumps and Rubella) - provide serology or evidence of completed vaccinations.
- dTpa (Adult Diphtheria, Tetanus and Pertussis) - provide evidence that you have received a booster within the last 10 years.
- Influenza Vaccination: Annual vaccination
- Completion of the TAFE Queensland Gold Coast Tuberculosis Screening form.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
- It is the student’s responsibility to ensure their documentation remains current throughout their studies.
- Any costs associated in acquiring the above documents are in addition to course costs and will be borne by the student.
- TAFE Queensland strongly recommends that prior to enrolment students consider their eligibility to obtain the above documentation.
- Vaccination and serology evidence requirements may alter during your studies, in accordance with changes to industry requirements and/or Australian Immunisation Guidelines.
