Designed for licensed electricians and gasfitters, this post-trade skill set can help you expand the services you offer and work towards a QBCC restricted water plumber licence.

Learn how to install, commission and test hot water systems, and develop the skills required to disconnect and reconnect associated water plumbing when replacing hot water units.

Successful completion may support an application for either restricted water plumber (gas) or restricted water plumber (electrical) licence, depending on your existing trade licence and QBCC eligibility requirements.

Selection criteria

This course is designed for licensed electricians and gasfitters who are seeking a licensed outcome from the Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC).

To be eligible for enrolment, you must provide evidence of one of the following:

current Electrical Mechanic licence (Electrical Safety Act 2002)
current Electrical Fitter licnece (Electrical Safety Act 2002)
current Gas Work licence (Petroleum and Gas - Production and Safety Act 2004)

Resources required

You are responsible for meeting the minimum occupational health and safety requirements in practical classes.

This includes the use of:

eye protection (safety glasses or clip-ons where prescription glasses are normally worn and must conform to the Australian Standard 1336 or 1337)
protective footwear with safety toe cap and non-slip soles to AS2210
100% cotton drill industry-standard clothing

These minimum standards of dress need to met to be permitted entry into practical classes.

Important information

QBCC licencing information

Successful completion of this course may support your eligibility to apply to the Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC) for one of the following occupational restricted plumbing licences, subject to meeting all QBCC requirements:

Water plumber - gas: for licensed gasfitters who want to apply to the QBCC for the licence to connect and disconnect water plumbing associated with replacing a gas hot water heater.
To be eligible, you must already hold a current gas work licence (Petroleum and Gas - Production and Safety Act 2004).
Water plumber - electrical: for licensed electricians who want to apply to the QBCC for the license to connect and disconnect water plumbing associated withe replacing an electrical resistance hot water heater.
To be eligible, you must already hold a current electrical mechanic licence (Electrical Safety Act 2002), or a current electrical fitter licence (Electrical Safety Act 2002).

Please note that successful completion of this course does not automatically result in the issue of a QBCC licence. You must apply to the QBCC and meet of the QBCC eligibility and licensing requirements at the time of application.
