Take the next step in your mechanical career by specialising in agricultural vehicles and equipment with this hands-on technical course.
AUR30416 Certificate III in Agricultural Mechanical Technology
Enhance your career by becoming a specialist in servicing agricultural vehicles and equipment with this hands-on entry-level qualification. This course will provide the practical skills and technical knowledge required to perform a broad range of tasks as an agricultural mechanic or technician.
According to the Australian Government's Job Outlook service, demand for qualified mechanics grew strongly over the past five years with employers finding it hard to fill vacancies. Job openings are expected to remain steady in the near future with around 23,000 job opening expected over the next five years.
You will be taught a broad range of skills required to perform mechanical work on agricultural vehicles and equipment by industry-experienced professionals. You will learn about safety, environment and communications, electrical/electronic systems, engine service and repair, transmission, cooling systems, clutches and braking systems, and diesel fuel systems. Our large-scale workshops are equipped with the latest industry technology, and deliver an exceptional hands-on learning experience.
Upon completion of this course, you will be qualified to service and repair farm vehicles and equipment. If completed as part of an apprenticeship, this course also allows you to apply for a trade qualification.
If you can demonstrate substantial competency in this qualification, you may be able to access funding for recognition of prior learning and gap training through the Trade Skills and Assessment Gap Training (TSAGT) program. TAFE Queensland is a proud recipient of funding from the Queensland Government, Department of Employment, Small Business and Training (DESBT) for this program. Only eligible participants may receive funding for eligible courses. Learn more about eligibility criteria.
Our learning spaces are more than just classrooms. They include simulated working environments which will develop your practical skills and prepare you for real-world situations while under the supervision of qualified, industry-experienced professionals.

You must already be employed to enrol as an apprentice or trainee with TAFE Queensland. Speak to your employer about choosing TAFE Queensland as your Supervising Registered Training Organisation (SRTO).
Eligible apprentices and trainees that meet the Queensland state funding requirements will be charged a set fee per nominal hour. These fees are calculated at a regulated rate of $1.60 per nominal hour. Concession rates apply for students who hold a current Health Care Card or who identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.
Non-funded apprentices and trainees will be charged a fee for service cost. These will be confirmed prior to the commencement of training.
Information regarding costs will be outlined on the agreed training plan, which will be provided to the employer and apprentice or trainee at time of induction.

Employers need to be able to provide the necessary human and physical resources to qualify for an apprentice.

This includes the use of clear safety glasses to AS 1336 or 1337, protective footwear with covered uppers, steel capped toes and non-slip soles to AS2210, mechanic gloves, and ear plugs or muffs. You should also wear 100% cotton drill industry-standard protective clothing. If you fail to meet these minimum standards of dress, you will not be permitted entry into practical classes.
You will be provided with a recommended reading list and/or required textbooks after enrolment, during orientation or at the start of each unit. The purchase of these resources may incur additional costs, or you may be able to borrow them from the TAFE Queensland library network.
You are also required to have access to and bring personal stationary, a USB, and a calculator.
