Course overview

Develop strong leadership skills to uphold the ethical, legislative and compliance requirements of the public sector, which are critical to any role within the public sector. As of June 2017, there were over 1.9 million people employed in the public sector across federal, state and local governments. Job openings for specialist managers are projected to be high over the next five years, with an estimation that over 50,000 job openings will be available across Australia by the end of 2019.

During this course, designed for prospective and existing public servants, you will develop advanced leadership skills in manage performance, conflict resolution, communications and working within a policy/procedure framework. You will augment your knowledge in respect to public sector values and will learn to conduct research and analysis, and implement risk management procedures and policies. 

Successful completion of this course will qualify you to work within the public service sectors in a range of positions, including supervisory positions such as the management of policy, operations, customer service, complaints, projects, risk and compliance.

Resources required

It is recommended that you have access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online learning system Connect, and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player. This equipment and software is available for use at all TAFE Queensland locations.

Assessment is based around work practices.

No specific resources are required to successfully complete this course.

Need to know

Study is structured into fixed intakes which have set durations (completion date is 12 weeks from the commencement date of each intake). Study can be commenced at the beginning of each intake. 

When studying online it is strongly recommended students follow the preferred order of study and enrol in no more than two units per intake, unless otherwise advised.

You may be assessed in a number of ways while you are studying at TAFE Queensland, including observation, written assessment, questioning, portfolios, work samples, third-party feedback, and through recognition of prior learning.
