Develop your career in the marine service and repair industry with this mid-level course. You will learn a broad range of practical skills and technical knowledge across a variety of vessels, enabling you to work as a marine mechanic and gain a trade qualification.
Australia is recognised as a global leader in the marine repair and maintenance industry, with exceptional repair facilities located on our vast shorelines and a global reputation for quality service. The industry relies on skilled workers to meet the high-quality manufacturing and servicing standards required and is prepared to invest in its workers to develop the skills required.
This course provides the skills to become a marine mechanic and perform a range of mechanical service and repair tasks within the marine industry. Work on inboard and outboard boat engines and equipment and learn to diagnose, repair and service engines and engine components, marine transmissions, propeller drive and jet drive propulsion systems. Also learn how to install and repair marine electrical, electronic and ignition systems and inboard marine hull equipment and instruments. You will receive hands-on training delivered by our industry-experienced teachers in our world-class workshops equipped with the latest marine technology.
Successful completion of this course will provide the technical knowledge and practical skills required to work as a Marine Mechanic, and if completed as part of an apprenticeship allows you to apply for a trade qualification.
If you can demonstrate substantial competency in this qualification, you may be able to access funding for recognition of prior learning and gap training through the Trade Skills and Assessment Gap Training (TSAGT) program. TAFE Queensland is a proud recipient of funding from the Queensland Government, Department of Employment, Small Business and Training (DESBT) for this program. Only eligible participants may receive funding for eligible courses. Learn more about eligibility criteria.
Your years of industry experience count for something. With our Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) process we can help you fill in your gaps in knowledge to upgrade or gain your qualifications faster.
