Course overview

Connect to the telecommunications industry with this entry-level course designed to give you a broad range of knowledge to hit the ground running as a telecommunications technician. This course prepares you to support the ever expanding information and communication technology industry by connecting people to the world.

During this course you will develop your judgement skills when selecting, installing and configuring equipment in connecting technologies that integrate radio, optical and internet protocol (IP) based applications. You'll also learn how to assess installation requirements, test installed equipment, and run fault-finding checks.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course.

Selection criteria

To study an apprenticeship or traineeship program you must be indentured as an apprentice or trainee with your employer.

Employers need to be able to provide the necessary human and physical resources to qualify for an apprentice.

Resources required

You are responsible for meeting the minimum occupational health and safety requirements in practical classes. This includes the use of safety glasses, protective footwear with covered uppers, steel capped toes and non-slip soles to AS2210, leather gloves to AS2161, and hair protection. You should also wear 100% cotton drill industry-standard clothing.

If you fail to meet these minimum standards of dress, you will not be permitted entry into practical classes.

Need to know

Year 12 graduates start trade training fee free, here’s how.
To be eligible to access fee-free training, you must:
• have completed Year 12 in Queensland and hold a Senior Statement issued by the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority or equivalent certificate that confirms you have completed Year 12 in Queensland
• enrol and start training with an approved training provider by the end of the calendar year following the completion of Year 12
• live permanently in Queensland.
