Course overview

Kick start your career in the water industry with this entry-level course. Develop skills in irrigation, networks, water sources and the treatment of water and get qualified to work as an operator in irrigation, surface water, wastewater, or water networks. 

The Australian Government's Job Outlook service predicts this growing industry will have up to 10,000 job openings over the next five years.

In this course you will learn how to contribute to the health and safety of others by following environmental and licensing procedures. You will also learn how to install, monitor and operate specialised equipment, and monitor processes including wastewater treatment and lagoon and water irrigation. 

Successful completion of this course will enable you to launch your career in a number of roles in the water industry such as irrigation field operator, surface water operator, or wastewater assistant operator.

While there are no formal entry requirements for this course, TAFE Queensland requires you to already be employed in the industry as or ready to enrol as an apprentice or trainee.

It is assumed that you will be receiving appropriate structured on-the-job training while undertaking this qualification.
