Construction Skills Queensland funding

If you or your apprentice or trainee work in the building and construction industry (including civil construction) you may be eligible to access Construction Skills Queensland (CSQ) funding to help reduce the cost of training.

TAFE Queensland is a proud recipient of Construction Skills Queensland (CSQ) funding. Eligible participants can receive funding to a range of training options including short courses and individual units of competency, as well as certificate, diploma and advanced diploma qualifications. Funding is limited and subject to availability.

What is Construction Skills Queensland?

Construction Skills Queensland is an independent, not-for-profit, industry-funded body supporting employers, workers, apprentices, trainees and career seeks in the building and construction industry.

CSQ provides funding to reduce the financial obstacle to training, making upskilling an affordable option for many more individuals in the building and construction industry. CSQ funding is paid directly to TAFE Queensland saving participants approximately 75% to 100% of course costs.

What is funded?

We receive funding from CSQ to provide subsidised training to the building and construction industry. CSQ funding is available for selected higher level qualifications, short courses and skills assessment and gap training certificate III qualifications. There are a range of different courses and qualifications that attract funding. Click the ‘download brochure’ button under each CSQ Program to access information about the program, the courses and qualifications on offer, the CSQ funded amount and the student contribution amount (the amount you would be required to pay).

Who is an Eligible Worker?

CSQ describe an eligible worker as someone who is an employee or self-employed worker, who can demonstrate primary and substantial direct involvement in the:

  • Queensland Building and Construction industry doing:
    • construction, significant renovations and extensions of residential and commercial buildings
    • installation services for interiors of residential and commercial buildings in associated trades; electrical, plumbing, flooring etc.
    • works on a major infrastructure project
  • Queensland Civil Construction industry doing:

    • works for civil infrastructure
    • works on a major infrastructure project

Higher Qualifications

CSQ’s 2025-26 Higher Qualifications Program provides eligible workers with funded training to complete either a Certificate IV, Diploma or Advanced Diploma. Eligible workers (excluding apprentices), and relevant administration staff working for a Queensland building and construction business can apply if there is a clear career path to undertake this training and remain in the Building and Construction industry.
