Studying with TAFE Queensland presented me with opportunities I didn't expect that I would ever get. I never thought that I would own my own business, I never thought that I would have my own salon or train my own apprentices.
The practical and hands-on skills were the most enjoyable part for me. We had hands-on training with teachers, we practiced on each other as students, then we completed services on the general public.
The facilities at TAFE Queensland were excellent. Full-size barber chairs so you can really learn how to cut hair around that. We had all the tools we needed — razors, clippers, scissors — everything was fully supplied.
The hands-on, practical experience is definitely what I enjoyed the most. Without TAFE Queensland I wouldn’t have gained the knowledge and skills I now have.
The training at TAFE Queensland has really helped get me into the industry and really learn pretty much everything I need to know for my job.
My favourite part about teaching is that moment when you see someone learn something for the first time and their eyes light up, that's the reward of being a teacher.
