Cunningham Centre
TAFE Queensland and Queensland Health's Cunningham Centre are partnering to deliver high-quality training for Sterilisation Technicians through the Certificate III in Sterilisation Services (HLT37015). This partnership is vital in building a skilled, adaptable, and sustainable health workforce. By addressing the increasing demand for skilled sterilisation technicians, this qualification enhances patient safety and workforce development strategies and aligns with industry demands.
This program is designed for flexibility, allowing students to balance their studies with work and life commitments. The self-directed learning model includes:
- Online learning modules – study at your own pace through TAFE Queensland’s learning management system, Connect.
- Virtual Zoom sessions – engage with expert trainers in interactive online classes.
- Practical training (if required) – practical training will be delivered in the workplace.
Vocational placement
To gain real-world experience, applicants not currently employed in a sterilising department (hospital or office-based) are required to complete a 120-hour (3 consecutive weeks) vocational placement in a hospital sterilisation facility. For eligibility requirements, click here.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
Have you been working in a hospital or health service in the past two years? You may be eligible to fast track your way to a formal qualification. RPL identifies and validates the skills you have gained through prior study (including formal, informal and non-formal learning) or previous work experience or volunteer work.
Funding
TAFE Queensland will apply any available government subsidies to eligible staff to reduce the cost of training. Queensland Health staff may be eligible for additional funding through the Enterprise Bargaining (EB) Training and Development fund or through their employing Hospital and Health Service. Please discuss your eligibility for EB funding with your manager.
The full fee, without subsidies, is $4,370 for online self-directed delivery.
