Bridgeman: Creating their future workforce

Bridgeman focuses on training and retaining Australian apprentices and trainees for the long term. Working alongside TAFE Queensland, enables Bridgeman to create and develop their future workforce.

Overview

  • Passionate about the continuous development of the industry and keen to invest in their employee's careers, Bridgeman developed the Futures Apprentice Program.
  • TAFE Queensland is supporting the training of 17 apprentices employed by Bridgeman.
  • The program is proving successful in creating career opportunities for new employees, and career growth and progression within the company.

The Customer

Bridgeman is a Supply Nation certified Indigenous company specialising in advanced metal manufacturing and construction. Bridgeman is one of the largest employees of apprentices, including Indigenous apprentices, within the metal manufacturing industry in Queensland.

Opportunity

Bridgeman created the Bridgeman Futures Program to address the issue of labour shortages in the metal manufacturing and construction industries.

Bridgeman apprentices and trainees gain valuable experience in the workplace as well as hands-on training from TAFE Queensland. Learning from Bridgeman, as well as TAFE Queensland's skilled trainers, provides employees with a well-rounded understanding of the industry and enables Bridgeman to create and develop a strong and skilled future workforce.

TAFE Queensland offers practical, hands-on training and world-class industry-relevant skills that Bridgeman highly values.

The collaboration between TAFE Queensland and Bridgeman allows apprentices and trainees the opportunity to develop invaluable skills and experience in a varied environment.

TAFE Queensland also provides Bridgeman's employees with further tertiary study post trade qualification, allowing them to progress into senior roles within the company.

Results

Bridgeman currently employs 17 apprentices who are enrolled at TAFE Queensland to study:

TAFE Queensland has actively engaged with the apprentices providing them with the support and experience they need to achieve their goals.

Bridgeman is very proud of the newly qualified tradespeople who completed their apprenticeships with Bridgeman and TAFE Queensland in 2023 who have chosen to continue their career journey with Bridgeman in 2024.

Future Plans

Bridgeman aims to develop the Futures Apprentice Program in collaboration with TAFE Queensland and continue to grow the number of apprenticeships being offered.

Through further tertiary study at TAFE Queensland, Bridgeman's aim is to promote employees into senior roles within the company.
