A strong training partnership with TAFE Queensland has been supporting Greenslopes Private Hospital to grow their own workforce since 2008.
Overview
Greenslopes Private Hospital and TAFE Queensland have partnered to deliver an integrated and innovative nursing course. Through this partnership, students can study the Diploma of Nursing (HLT54121) at Greenslopes Private Hospital in Brisbane and put what is learnt in the classroom into practice in the world-class teaching hospital.

Greenslopes Private Hospital
Greenslopes Private Hospital is owned by Ramsay Health Care. A private Hospital in Brisbane since 1942 and has previously received awards for Best Private Hospital.
Opportunity
TAFE Queensland began working with Greenslopes Private Hospital to provide support in finding skilled and qualified Enrolled Nurses, and reduce the costs experienced by the hospital for training.
The partnership was also developed to encourage retention.
Solution
The course is delivered with theoretical study and practical on-campus learning at Greenslopes Private Hospital.
The course takes 18 months to complete and includes a minimum of four rotations throughout the hospital allowing a variety of ward and speciality-based experiences such as orthopaedics, urology, general surgical, general medical, rehabilitation, mental health, coronary care, oncology, neurology, gynaecology and perioperative.
Results
TAFE Queensland and Greenslopes Private Hospital have been working together since April 2008, with over 1000 graduates completing their studies during that time. Incredibly, the program boasts 98% retention of graduates maintaining employment.
The Hospital has experienced a reduction in training costs, and an increase in staff ownership in supporting and guiding students.
Enrolled Nurses are graduating with confidence and familiarity within the healthcare sector, enabling them to transition seamlessly into full-time employment.
Future plans
This partnership is highly regarded in industry and with nursing peak bodies, and the model has been used as an exemplar for other organisations to replicate and “grow their own workforce”.
