Our teacher aides play a vital role in supporting teachers and positively influencing students’ development. Almost one third of our teacher aides in Australia have no tertiary qualification.
TAFE Queensland supplies recognition of prior learning for a Certificate III in Education Support (CHC30213) through the Queensland Department of Education’s standing offer arrangement. Gap training is offered where needed. Teacher aides who successfully complete the certificate III are able to access higher-level certificates that further support their professional development. TAFE Queensland developed a customised micro-credential to provide general awareness and safety training for public servants returning to the workplace. The program is self-paced and delivered completely online. Short quizzes built into the program assess the individual’s knowledge. The Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games was one of the largest events of the decade in Australia. Over 15,000 volunteers were required to support the event. To ensure consistency of practice and support a successful event, organisers needed a large training program.
TAFE Queensland developed a four-part training program that covered on-boarding, role and venue specific training, just-in-time training, and leadership training. Volunteers from around the country were able to access the training prior to the event, ensuring they were prepared.
