Pre-Vocation programs open doors to apprenticeships

Two TAFE Queensland pre-apprenticeship students beat the odds, snaring the first apprenticeships ever offered by PepsiCo ANZ.

By TAFE Queensland

Lachlan Turnbull and Zac Fitzgerald were amongst 400 applicants who applied for the two positions, scoring apprenticeships in electrical fitting and mechanical fitting.

PepsiCo Operations Training Manager David Smith said, “The two apprentices stood out from the crowd through their eagerness to learn. This was an ideal fit with PepsiCo, as a business that prides itself in fostering career growth in a supportive environment that encourages ongoing learning.”

TAFE Queensland partnered with PepsiCo to arrange work experience at the Tingalpa facility after Lachlan and Zac had both completed pre-apprenticeship programs. Lachlan who secured the electrical fitting apprenticeship said that the work experience gave him the opportunity to see what it would be like to work at PepsiCo. ”Their working environment really appealed to me; I like the fact that every day is different which allows me to improve and grow my skills”.

TAFE Queensland prides itself in producing work-ready pre-apprenticeship students for the workforce. “PepsiCo is extremely happy with the progress that both apprentices have made since commencing earlier in the year.” David Smith said.

PepsiCo is committed to career progression for its staff and is extremely happy with the progress that both apprentices have made since commencing earlier in the year.
