Jayden’s career in caring is closer thanks to Fee-Free TAFE
Jayden Dudek is an apple that hasn’t fallen far from the tree – striding confidently in his parents’ footsteps to a fulfilling career in nursing.
With a career in caring for people firmly in his sights, there was only one decision left for Jayden to make and that was the study pathway to become qualified.
Fee-free TAFE made that decision easy. Jayden is currently enrolled in a Diploma of Nursing (HLT54121), which will see him qualified as an Enrolled Nurse (EN) and shaving one year off the Bachelor qualification he needs to become a Registered Nurse (RN) just like his parents.
“Fee-free TAFE made it a no-brainer,” Jayden said.
“It will save me so much money in the long run because it will cut down the time I need to attend uni for the RN qualification.”
Fee-Free TAFE funding is part of the Queensland Government's Good People. Good jobs: Queensland Workforce Strategy 2022–2032.
It aims to connect, educate and attract the people needed to meet the state's workforce demand in existing and new industry sectors to support continued economic growth.
With approximately 37,000 Fee-Free TAFE and vocational education and training places available in 2023, the program will support Queenslanders to skill up to meet the state's current and future workforce needs by enabling them to complete selected qualifications at no or low cost.
Now several months into his training, Jayden is relishing in the hands-on training he is receiving at the Sunshine Coast Health Institute.
“We are being taught how to nurse, really nurse. It’s very hands on and the teachers are willing to take the time to make sure you understand,” Jayden said.
“Everyday is like a simulation of what you are going to experience in a hospital or aged care facility.”
Jayden is quick to encourage other would-be carers to strike while the iron is hot to pursue Fee-free TAFE funding to get their career started now.
“Why wouldn’t you? This is such a great opportunity for people to be qualified and get the job they want without any financial barrier,” he said.
