Sheyana continuing to shine
Some people just seem to never stop and 2022 Student of the Year Sheyana Brough is certainly shaping up to be one of those!
Thanks to Sheyana being awarded one of TAFE Queensland’s scholarships in 2021, which enabled her to successfully study for a Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care (CHC43115) in 2022, she’s now on the start of a journey to a promising career in early childhood.
That alone would have been a significant achievement enough but in her typical go-getting fashion, Sheyana’s commitment to her academic success, teamwork, studies and career aspirations made her a standout contender for the Student of the Year award.
“This award means so much to me because it not only recognises my achievements but importantly, shows the efforts and encouragement my mum and my amazing TAFE teachers invested in me,” Sheyana said.
“I’ve always loved looking after children from a young age – babysitting was my passion – and caring for my little sister was why I decided to study early childhood.”
Sheyana’s dedication to her studies and career goals paid off with her successfully landing a job at Immanuel Lutheran College while she was still studying full time.
“I wanted to go to the next level in the industry with my skills and my TAFE studies have definitely strengthened my employment opportunities,” Sheyana said.
“I want to learn and experience all I can in this industry so that ultimately, I can reach my goal of becoming a teacher at a Steiner Education Australia school where the education and development of a child are tailored to their needs.”
If Sheyana’s success to date is anything to go by, it’s safe to say the sky may not even be the limit as to how far she can go with her career ambitions and life goals – we can definitely see her future prospects are most promising!
TAFE Queensland Acting General Manager (East Coast), Mark Reilly, congratulated Sheyana on her achievement and said he is incredibly proud of all TAFE Queensland East Coast region students who graduated in 2022.
“I am always impressed with the quality of candidates our Sunshine Coast campuses consistently produce every year,” Mr Reilly said.
“Each and every one of our Sunshine Coast graduates have worked so hard and invested a significant amount of time in their studies so it was an absolute privilege being able to celebrate with our graduating students and pay tribute to them and their families.
“As our students enter the next chapter of going into the workforce and chasing their career goals, I’m excited about their potential and what each and every one can achieve, locally and even globally.”
Sheyana is an everyday example at TAFE Queensland of how you can define your greatness when you combine focus, persistence, passion and a willingness to improve your career opportunities by investing in further studies and training. Find out more at tafeqld.edu.au.
