Growing training and career opportunities in the Southern Downs
With a rich history of vocational education and training in Warwick dating back to the early 1900s, TAFE Queensland works hand-in-hand with local businesses and the community to support the region’s growth now, and into the future.
TAFE Queensland General Manager of the South West Region, Jenni Butler, believes the Warwick campus is well placed to build on the organisation’s legacy in the region and deliver in-demand skills to students and employers.
“Warwick is home to the second purpose built technical college in the state, and as Queensland’s largest and oldest training provider, we’re proud to provide local students with the skills and experience they need to build lifelong careers right here on the Southern Downs,” Mrs Butler said.
“The Warwick campus is a hub for training in a number of skill areas, particularly individual support, aged care and the trades.”
“This year, it’s been great to see continued growth in apprentice numbers — a testament to the region’s thriving agriculture, manufacturing and transport and logistics industries.”
With flexible delivery available, training can be delivered on site, online, in the workplace, or on campus by industry-experienced trainers.
TAFE Queensland also partners with local community groups to deliver hands-on and engaging pre-apprenticeship programs.
“We’re working closely with groups like the Southern Downs Industry Education Association to offer courses like the Certificate II in Engineering Pathways (MEM20413) to young participants keen to gain apprenticeships with local employers.” Mrs Butler said.
TAFE Queensland Customer Service Officer, Andrew Leadbetter, is based at the Warwick campus and said that training is accessible to students from all walks of life.
“From students looking to embark on a new career, upskill or get a head-start during their senior studies, there are a range of options on offer,” Andrew said.
“I enjoy helping people achieve their goals and get a leg up into their chosen career,” he added.
Year 10, 11 or 12 students can complete a TAFE Queensland course while still at school. Students can study certificate I through to certificate III courses across a range of study areas, from hospitality to health.
