International student reignites his love for nursing with TAFE Queensland

Damir works on reaching the same level of recognised education as he had in Germany.

Meet Damir Pozderovic, an international student from Germany who reignited his passion for nursing with TAFE Queensland. Back in 2010, Damir completed his nursing degree in Germany and worked as a registered nurse for some time.

However, his heart yearned for a change, and he decided to explore the world of business management. Damir completed a Bachelor of Business Administration in Germany and worked as an accountant for six months, but something was still missing for him.

That's when Damir made the courageous move to travel down under and pursue his passion for nursing once again. With TAFE Queensland, he found the perfect pathway to reignite his nursing career and fulfil his lifelong dream.

Now, as Damir progresses through his Diploma of Nursing (HLT54121) course to become a qualified enrolled nurse, he is thrilled to be back in the world of nursing and excited to see where his newfound knowledge and skills will take him.

“After evaluating my options, I perceived the diploma as a very good path to get back into the field of nursing especially in Australia,” Damir said.

Upon completion of the Diploma of Nursing (HLT54121), Damir expressed his aspirations of securing employment as a nurse, hoping to take advantage of the many opportunities that may come his way.

“I am working on reaching the same level of recognised education as I had in Germany,” he said.

Damir shared his enthusiasm for utilising the cutting-edge equipment in the onsite clinical labs, particularly the programmable mannequins that can mimic various real-life nursing scenarios. He enjoys the hands-on experience and the opportunity to learn appropriate medical interventions in a safe and controlled environment.

“I must compliment the various study modes TAFE Queensland has to offer such as full-time, part-time and online.”

Expressing his appreciation for the course structure, Damir stated that he enjoys the mixed mode of residential school and online lectures, as it allows for flexibility in attending lectures both on-campus and remote.

“The teachers at TAFE Queensland are very knowledgeable and passionate about their teachings, which motivates students.”

“My nursing teachers are helpful, caring, empathetic, friendly and well-organised.”
